Since our establishment, we have been committed to keep communicating the shitsurai culture to customers not just in Japan but also those abroad who take an interest in Japan and we have been developing as a company dealing with interior products made with natural materials including bamboo. We will continue to deliver globally interior spaces of natural materials, along with our handicraft YAMESUDARE, made with local materials.

SHIKADA SHITSURAI SHOWROOM

In January 2023, our showroom will open, renewed as the SHIKADA SHITSURAI SHOWROOM. It has been designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates, who have been choosing our sudare fabrics for over 10 years for their concept of next-generation hotel space made with sustainable materials from bamboo and wisteria. In the showroom you can see in detail how SHIKADA WOVEN has been used inside and outside Japan. The showroom is also equipped with a testing facility to verify the elasticity, torsional characteristics, and permeability of bamboo sudare.

Our factory

Our Japan headquarters has a sudare factory. Our sudare fabrics and products are meticulously created works of art. It is a one-stop-shop factory, handling all processes from splitting bamboo and making fine bamboo strings to using a weaving machine to weave the strings as sudares, attaching accessories, assembling mechanisms for rolling up and down the sudare, to fire-proof processing. A few kilometers away in the location where we were established, we have a bamboo forest where we grow leopard bamboo trees. On weekdays only, we also accept factory tours and you can experience weaving.
