The SHIKADA Concept
The SHIKADA Concept
Effective use of bamboo materials
SHIKADA WOVEN is made from bamboo. As there are calls for decarbonization worldwide, we use bamboo, which is garnering attention as a resource alternative to resin. Bamboo can grow up to 1 m in a single night and grows into mature bamboo in 3 years. It is the fastest growing plant in the world, making it an excellent resource. Since our founding in 1912, we have engaged in detailed craftsmanship leveraging this resource.
Bamboo materials for the future
We also participate in volunteer work to regrow dilapidated bamboo forests in local communities in order to protect our resource, bamboo. All staff engage in activities to grow bamboo in order to preserve rare types of bamboo for the future.
Craftsmanship by SHIKADA SANGYO
SHIKADA SANGYO has continuously produced SHIKADA WOVEN, finely woven bamboo that can be used to create many different expressions. It is produced by processing thin strips of bamboo. We continue to place great emphasis on quality and manual handiwork by our artisans.
Even now, SHIKADA WOVEN is produced by examining each individual thin bamboo strip and then carefully weaving them in manually. Designs created by uniform materials and fine craftsmanship are what we have continuously focused on since our founding.
